How Sustainable is Sustainability?

March 15th has been celebrated worldwide for the last 41 years as the International Day for Consumers Rights. The international theme chosen by Consumers International in 2025 is: a just transition towards sustainable lifestyles. The Consumers Tribune gladly joined the international tradition to make the voices of consumers be heard on all levels of governance, as well as towards businesses, focusing on protecting and incuding vulnerable consumers with low income.

The event organized by the Consumers Tribune took place March 17th and 18th at Casa Universitarilor, Dionisie Lupu Street, 39, Bucharest and it raised awareness on the impact the new EU legislative norms regarding sustainable lifestyles have had on Romanian consumers.

The event had two stages:

1. a round table with relevant representatives from ANPC (National Agency for the Protection of Consumers), The Governmental Department for Longterm Development, private companies, discussing the transition towrds sustainable lifestyles, sustainable actions taken by several economic actors and feedback from consumers and also new consumption trends that these actions created.

Sabina Georgescu, fashion designer and founder for SABINNE, was invited to the panel to present the sustainable practices from her own fashion studio, talk about why textile recycling is important and what a consumer can basically do in order to reduse exccessive fast-fashion consumption and have a better impact on the environment.

2 Workshops - practical for consumers  - textile upcycling

This year these workshops were held for the first time to demonstrate creative and accessible ways to avoid waste. Before throwing away a piece of clothing, one can research creative ways to reuse it
